On track for life.
The growing obesity epidemic in the United States at the turn of the millennium was a major concern. One, if unchecked, was said to pose drastic threats to public health and lead to an overall reduction in life expectancy.
Fitness Expert
Helping user’s get on track.
While the objective of long-term weight loss was both medically beneficial and a practical goal, the tools available to customers at the time, primarily the home scale, were wildly ineffective at accurately determining one’s overall health and wellness.
Fitness Expert™ offered breakthrough, value-added technology products and services in the health and fitness industry, allowing users to quickly and accurately track their health and fitness levels in the privacy of their own home.
Breakthrough Technology
Empowering personal fitness goals.
In response to such concerns, a product was developed to empower individuals with the necessary information to counter obesity, dehydration and sedentary life practices. The Body Analyzer and Calorie Tracker are research-grade devices that accurately measure and collect activity and health data that is then sent to a user’s online Personal Fitness Record accessible via the Fitness Expert website, where they can view their overall fitness progress.
Data-driven Products
Delivering real fitness results.
Fitness Expert was a technology breakthrough in the health and fitness industry, combining two medical-grade devices: Body Analyzer and Calorie Tracker. Through the combination of these two devices—monitoring overall body composition, hydration and activity levels—customers were empowered with the information available to take control of their overall physical fitness levels.
The information from each sophisticated data-collection device was collected over time, and then uploaded via the Body Analyzer to a user's online Personal Fitness Record, accessible through the Fitness Expert website. Customers could then access their online profile to see results, monitor progress and utilize other proprietary features in an effort to stay on track with their personal health and fitness goals.
Body Analyzer
A noninvasive electrical bio-impedance device, formerly available only through major research laboratories, measuring hydration level, lean muscle mass and body fat, all within two percent accuracy of a standard water immersion test.
Calorie Tracker
A sophisticated calorie-monitoring accelerometer, tracking the movement, acceleration and vibration of an individual, not to be confused with a simple pedometer which measures steps. This research-grade device accurately measures and records daily caloric burn as a person sleeps, works, relaxes and exercises.
Results
The Fitness Expert launched in early 2005 to hundreds of beta users across the country. And, while the device, as well as the supporting data tracking software and tools, received very positive feedback, a problem developed between the group who owned the technology patent and the company manufacturing and marketing the product. This unfortunately resulted in a breach of contract and termination of the beta program. Even though the device did not launch publicly, the Fitness Expert brand was maintained for several years to follow in support of other health-related products.
